The Pretoria Capitals finished as the runners-up in the inaugural SA20 in 2023, losing to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final match. However, their performance in the 2024 season has been disappointing so far, with consecutive defeats against the Paarl Royals. The Capitals have not yet secured a win this season, and their captain Wayne Parnell was absent in both matches due to a shoulder injury. It remains to be seen if Parnell has recovered and will be included in the team for the upcoming fixture. Parnell's absence has been felt, as he is a talented all-rounder, and the team is lacking his left-arm bowling skills. The Capitals have a highly dynamic opening batting pair in Will Jacks and Phil Salt, but they need both players to perform well together. In the previous match, Jacks scored a half-century, while Salt was dismissed for a duck. In the middle order, Rilee Rossouw has been in good form, scoring 82 runs against the Royals recently. The team also has the advantage of having a fast bowler in Daryn Dupavillon, who is filling in for the injured Anrich Nortje. Dupavillon possesses similar speed to Nortje, if not more, but lacks the same level of accuracy. Additionally, the inclusion of England wrist spinner Adil Rashid provides a valuable complement to Dupavillon.

Durban's Super Giants ended the 2023 season in second-to-last place, but have had an impressive start to the 2024 season with three consecutive wins. Victories against the Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape have established Durban as strong contenders for the 2024 SA20 title. Despite the absence of seamer Kyle Abbott due to injury, the bowling unit has performed well, thanks in large part to the contributions of England's Reece Topley, a talented left-arm seamer who recently took three wickets in a win over the Super Kings. In terms of batting, Heinrich Klaasen has been a standout player, leading the franchise in runs during the previous SA20 season and currently being the top scorer this year. Klaasen's explosive performances, scoring 85, 13 not out, and 64 in his innings so far, have highlighted his destructive abilities. A fourth consecutive victory would bring Durban one step closer to securing a place in the playoffs. Even if they were to lose to the Capitals, it would only serve as motivation to push harder towards reaching the next stage of the tournament.

The match will be held at SuperSport Park in Centurion, which is known for being one of the highest-scoring grounds in South Africa. The Royals demonstrated this earlier in the week when they scored 210 in their first innings. The Centurion ground is famous for its pace, so it would be beneficial to have two specialist slow bowlers in the team to take advantage of the extra bounce, if not turn, available. Rain is expected the day before the match in Centurion, but it should not affect the matchday, allowing for a full fixture to take place. The Durban's Super Giants have a lot of momentum heading into this match, having won three consecutive matches, while the Pretoria Capitals have yet to secure a win this season. Durban are favored to win this match, while Pretoria are underdogs going into the game.
