Currently ranked sixth in the ICC's men's T20I team rankings, the West Indies are trailing South Africa in fourth place. Missing from the Windies lineup are Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Alzarri Joseph, and Sherfane Rutherford, as they are participating in the IPL. Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran have been given a rest for this match and series. Brandon King will take over the captaincy for the Indies. It will be important for King to maintain his focus on his batting despite the added responsibility. Shamar Joseph, who made a successful Test debut earlier this year, is part of the Windies squad and his pace could pose a challenge to the opposition batters. Spinner Gudakesh Motie and seamer Kyle Mayers are also considered threats to the Proteas.

South Africa is eager to win their first T20 World Cup, and their journey begins with this series in the Caribbean. Similar to the West Indies, the Proteas are missing some key players such as Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen who are participating in the IPL. Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Gerald Coetzee, are expected to strengthen the team. Leg-spinner Nqaba Peter is also generating a lot of interest due to his potential. The Proteas will likely experiment with different combinations and strategies during this series. They will be looking to build solid XI for the world cup next month. Rob Walter and his team will face a significant challenge in achieving their goals in such a short span of time

Rassie van der Dussen (c), Reeza Hendricks, Matthew Breetzke, Quinton de Kock (wk), Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Wiaan Mulder, Gerald Coetzee, Anrich Nortje, Patrick Kruger, Lungi Ngidi

This match will take place at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. In the last three T20Is held at this venue, two teams decided to bat first and one team chose to bowl after winning the toss. It is likely that the team winning the toss this time will opt to field first. The pitch at Sabina Park is expected to be fresh and high-scoring, with first-innings totals in the last three T20Is being 145, 185, and 2015. A first-innings score of around 180 or more could be seen as competitive in these conditions. Both teams may consider playing two specialist spinners due to the expected turn in the pitch.

Rain is forecasted in Kingston, Jamaica, this week, and there is a possibility that the match could be affected by wet weather. This could benefit the team batting second, as they may have to chase a revised target.

South Africa are missing more players due to the IPL than West Indies, who have the advantage of playing at home. It is likely that West Indies will take an early lead in the series against South Africa. West Indies are going into the game as favourites looking at the odds. It is suggested to bet on West Indies to win the match.
