All Eyes on September 14: India vs Pakistan at 2025 T20 Asia Cup

Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been officially confirmed as the host cities for the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup, set to take place from September 9 to 28. The tournament will feature 19 matches, with Dubai hosting 11, including the final, and Abu Dhabi staging eight.

Cricket fans can look forward to a blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India will also play UAE on September 10 in Dubai and take on Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said

The Asia Cup is more than just a tournament – it’s a celebration of Asian cricket.

“Hosting it in the UAE allows us to bring the excitement to one of the most vibrant cricketing hubs in the world. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are well equipped to deliver a seamless and world-class experience for players, fans and broadcasters alike.”

Naqvi expressed confidence that the 2025 edition will set new benchmarks and strengthen the bond between the sport and millions of fans across the continent.

Expanded Format with Eight Teams

For the first time in the T20I format, the Asia Cup will feature eight teams, divided into two groups:

• Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman

• Group B: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Hong Kong China

The tournament will be played in the T20I format to serve as preparation for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Fours, leading up to the final on September 28 in Dubai.

Neutral Venue Agreement Between India and Pakistan

While India is the official host, the tournament will be held in the UAE due to a mutual agreement between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The decision stems from ongoing geopolitical tensions, with both boards agreeing to play at neutral venues through 2027.

India enters the tournament as the defending champion, having defeated Sri Lanka in the 2023 50-over final in Colombo. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, claimed the 2022 T20I title by beating Pakistan.
