At its G-Force conference held in Melbourne, Alcatel-Lucent presented its business-to-consumer (B2C) plans for the Asia-Pacific region.

Social media and mobility are at the core of its product strategy, which is supported by local partnerships and regional investments in business consulting.

The vendor’s other assets in business-to-business (B2B) communications and its carrier business could be a strategic differentiator in the cloud computing era.

However, greater synergies between business units across the company will be required.

Alcatel-Lucent has announced its Dynamic Enterprise vision, which integrates the solution portfolios and go-to-market activities of its Genesys and Enterprise divisions.

A joint R&D team is currently working on a new integrated communication platform based on SIP that will include UC functionality from Alcatel-Lucent and Genesys contact center applications. This will be the company's main communication platform for both B2B and B2C going forward.

We think there are many features and concepts currently present only in a contact center environment that could be very useful for enterprise collaboration. However, unlike in a contact center, where the agents are trained to use their tools and to communicate with customers, in the office environment employees get little support to use such collaboration tools.

This has probably been a major barrier for UC adoption by enterprise users. This is particularly true in Asia-Pacific, where cultural issues and behavioral dynamics suggest that some communication media channels (such as video) will have less appeal in some markets.
