Alcatel-Lucent secures more than $400m in deals in China

(Telecomworldwide via NewsEdge) Alcatel-Lucent has secured deals worth more than $400 million from two Chinese operators, the company announced.

Alcatel-Lucent signed an agreement for mobile communications solutions and services with China Mobile worth $340 million.

The deal was secured through its Chinese company Alcatel Shanghai Bell.

Alcatel-Lucent it will provide GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio and core network equipment, for China Mobile

Alcatel-Lucent also said it has signed a separate agreement with and China Unicom worth $120 million.

The agreement encompasses a range of network projects China Unicom has undertaken or plans to undertake in 2007, the firm said.

The projects include a cdma2000 1xEV-DO Rev. high-speed data network upgrade to be implemented in China Unicom's network in Macau, as well as a further expansion in the CDMA core network, radio solutions, and applications that will support China Unicom's broader mobile network expansion.

The agreement also provides for GSM/GPRS/EDGE core and radio network solutions and optical network components in support of China Unicom's GSM service offerings.

With this agreement Alcatel-Lucent secures its position as the vendor with the largest installed base in China Unicom's CDMA network.
