Hon Hai affiliate Ambit Microsystems has won approval for its planned Taiwanese 4G network rollout, after removing Huawei from the proposal.
Taiwan's National Communications Commission has approved the revised application that Ambit had submitted last week, Want China Times reported.
Ambit now plans to commence construction on its 4G network by as early as next month. The company could construct the 250 base stations required by regulators for a 4G launch in around one month.
Ambit had applied in March to roll out a 4G network using base stations provided by Huawei, but regulators had delayed approving the application for a four-month span citing national security concerns.
Hon Hai and Ambit had initially planned to push for being allowed to use Huawei equipment, but the delay has left Ambit lagging behind its rivals in the LTE race. Last month, Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone and Taiwan mobile all launched LTE services in the span of a few days.
By way of a response, Ambit last week dropped Huawei as a 4G supplier and resubmitted an application proposing to use base stations provided by Nokia instead. The revised application has now been cleared.
