Taiwan handset marker HTC has posted a bumper Q2 as demand for its Android phones has boosted sales by 58%.

It posted 33% higher net income of NT$8.64 billion ($268m) on sales of NT$60.5 billion way ahead of the $50 billion forecast.

Yuanta Securities analyst Bonnie Chang toldWSJ she expects HTC's shipments to rise to 20 million units this year, up from 12 million in 2009.

She said the profit beat her forecasts because of higher average selling prices (ASPs) from the launch of new smartphones in the quarter.

HTC, which made its name as one of Microsoft’s early mobile partners, has now forged a name as successful Android OEM.

As well as building Motorola’s Droid Incredible and the EVO 4G for US carriers, it has also created its own hugely popular line of smartphones such as the Legend and the Desire.
