The Australian government has announced an extra A$12.9 million ($12.66 million) fund for new digital initiatives that would allow businesses to take advantage of the gains of the National Broadband Network (NBN) project.

The additional funding is expected to deliver an extra 21 Digital Enterprise services, including a virtual service in remote Australia.

The expanded program is expected to provide 3,650 group training and 14,350 one-on-one training sessions to approximately 49,000 SME and not-for-profit participants.

“The NBN is being rolled out to all Australians so it is essential that all of us develop the skills and understand how we can best take advantage of the fast, reliable, and affordable broadband it delivers,” Senator Conroy said.

Under the scheme, qualified councils could receive up to A$375,000, which will enable them to use the NBN to deliver improved services to local residents.
