Amazon Web Services has announced the opening of a third Availability Zone in Asia-Pacific with a presence in the Singapore region.

Availability Zones refer to technology infrastructure in separate and distinct geographic locations with enough distance to significantly reduce the risk of a single event impacting availability, yet near enough for business continuity applications that require rapid failover.

Each Availability Zone has independent power, cooling, and physical security, and is connected to national backbone networks via high-speed fiber optic networks.

AWS customers focused on high availability can design their applications to run in multiple Availability Zones to achieve even higher fault-tolerance. AWS also provides Amazon CloudFront services at edge locations in Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Singapore for customers looking to deliver websites, applications, and content to end users with lower latency.

“Responding to demand from local customers and Amazon Partner Network (APN) Partners, AWS is increasing its commitment to the fast-growing Southeast Asia region by opening a third Availability Zone, so AWS customers have another local option where they can run mission-critical workloads and store data,” AWS managing director for ASEAN Nick Walton said.

“For many years, an enthusiastic base of customers across Southeast Asia have chosen to build their businesses on AWS because it offers more functionality than other cloud platforms, including a wide array of database, IoT) and machine learning technologies, as well as an extensive APN Partner and customer ecosystem, and unmatched maturity, security, and performance.”
