China's Beijing Metro is improving wireless network coverage in its railways in preparation for this year's Summer Olympics.

Australia's Andrew Wireless Solutions said it was chosen by Beijing Metro to install and supply wireless networking systems to add coverage in six rail lines.

More than 6.4 million visitors are expected to visit Beijing during the games, according to Beijing Olympic organizing committee.

Passengers with GSM, CDMA, or GPRS-enabled mobile devices will be able to access the Web while emergency personnel and railway employees will get access to dedicated networks.

Andrew, a division of Commscope, said it supported similar wireless deployments in metro rail projects in other Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The company was also previously was chosen to provide network coverage for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
