Mobile payments firm Boku is extending its Asia Pacific presence into Singapore, just weeks after buying a major slice of India’s carrier billing market.
The US firm is teaming with Singaporean incumbent SingTel to provide mobile payment services to its post paid subscribers. The telco’s direct billing API will be used, resulting in more efficient user authentication, faster and more detailed notice of billing errors, continuous pricing, and recurring billing functionality, Boku claims.
Kurt Davis, Boku’s general manager for Asia, says SingTel opens the door to offering “our merchant partners carrier billing functionality across the entire Southeast Asia region.”
The partnership will improve merchants’ conversion rates, “while simplifying the purchase process for consumers,” Davis adds.
Boku last month acquired Indian direct carrier billing firm Qubecell, in a move it claims brings leadership of the market, and access to 75% of the country’s mobile subscribers.
SingTel plans to extend the carrier billing service to its other Asia Pacific operations, including Optus, Telkomsel, AIS, and Globe, a Boku statement explains.
