China’s Commerce Ministry has attacked a European Union probe into the alleged dumping of wireless modems.
The EU last week launched an anti-dumping and safeguard investigation into wireless wide-area network modems imported from China.
But the Commerce Ministry said the “Chinese public and industry players are deeply unhappy” with the probe, which it says affects products worth $605 million.
“China expresses its deep concern," it said in a statement, describing EU probes as "typical trade protectionist measures."
The EU is acting on complaints from Belgium modem vendor Option, which called for an immediate registration of modem imports because of the “sharp increase of obviously dumped imports into the European market."
It said this low-priced imports were causing “severe injury.”
According to the WSJ, Option accounts for 100% of the EU's production of WWAN modems.
