A new research from IDC also said the WLAN market for cloud-managed Wi-Fi presents notable growth opportunities in both hardware and services.

In recent years, cloud-managed Wi-Fi growth has been fueled by increased adoption in the midmarket and distributed enterprise.

Rohit Mehra, VP, network infrastructure at IDC said, “Enterprises are seeing the big picture and definitely considering cloud-managed Wi-Fi for their remote sites when upgrading their networks. These upgraded network architectures can accommodate unique needs around bring your own device, scalability, application visibility and management.”

The IDC research further said cloud-managed Wi-Fi belies the prevailing trend in enterprise IT of “everything as a service” and that vendors and channel partners are enabling simplified deployments through extensive managed services offerings.

One of the most appealing benefits of cloud-managed Wi-Fi is the ability to provide automated provisioning and configuration, IDC said.

In a separate report, IDC said major cloud service providers (CSPs) in Asia dropped their prices for core services dramatically and IDC believes that this will make it very difficult for smaller CSPs to remain in business if they continue to rely on provision of basic, undifferentiated services.

Chris Morris, AVP, services Asia Pacific, and lead analyst, for cloud services & technologies, at IDC said, “If the smaller CSPs are strong enough with decent customer bases, they will be acquired by larger providers. If not, then they're road-kill. In any case, both of the above will drive consolidation amongst the cloud vendors.”
