CSR and Skyhook Wireless announced a partnership aimed at WiFi-enabled devices with built-in location-based technology.
The partnership combines CSR's embedded WiFi chips with Skyhook Wireless' positioning technology.
Skyhook's WiFi Positioning System software produces accurate location information by detecting WiFi access points and comparing them against a known database of geo-located points.
By combining these technologies, the partnership will enable device makers to more easily support and launch location-based services, the two companies said
The two vendors also aimed to capitalize on the emergence of WiFi-enabled mobile devices and provide enhanced positioning availability for location-based services applications.
