Ericsson to help telcos become agile

Ericsson’s analyst conference in October 2013 focused on OSS and BSS, and business transformation for telcos. It provided a platform for Ericsson to share its plans on how to help telcos be more agile.

Ericsson intends to support telcos in developing new revenue streams by delivering cloud and digital services, enhancing customer experience, and providing managed services from a service-centric perspective.

Ericsson is well positioned to help telcos create specialized services for enterprises. Ericsson’s service enablement business solutions for telcos include multiscreen self-care, unified service exposure, connected vehicle cloud (directly addresses the automotive industry), converged service studio (helps telcos create and deploy services that are independent of network access technology), and a multi-screen storefront. This suite of solutions aims to enable telcos to become service enablers and service creators, which are critical elements in the digital services ecosystem.

Telcos can’t afford to remain inactive in this highly competitive industry. OTT services, increased use of smartphones and connected devices, and machine-to-machine services present opportunities for telcos to leverage their assets to diversify their revenue streams. These assets include customer data that supports business relationships; network assets; security; billing and charging platforms; and quality of service.

Telcos can take advantage of opportunities such as enabling enterprise cloud services, enhancing the user experience of OTT services and other digital services, and monetizing subscriber data. By delivering these services, telcos can meet customer needs, define new opportunities for partnerships with competitors (such as OTT players), and support their moves into new/adjacent industry verticals.
