Ericsson and Huawei have extended their global patent cross-licensing agreement covering wireless technologies including GSM, UMTS and LTE standard-essential patents.
As part of the renewed agreement Huawei will make on-going royalty payments to Ericsson based on actual sales from 2016 and onwards. The commercial terms have not been disclosed.
"We are pleased to extend our global cross license agreement with Ericsson,” Huawei global head of intellectual property Jianxin Ding said.
“This new agreement reflects the two leading companies' joint view that innovation and intellectual property rights shall be protected, and reasonable compensation for the implementation of intellectual property rights is vital to promoting technology innovation, sharing and standardizing technology, driving and accelerating industry evolution.”
In other vendor news, Nokia has completed its first day of combined operations with Alcatel-Lucent after completing the merger between the companies.
The company has announced the composition of the combined company's first board of directors, serving under chairman Risto Siilasmaa.
The company also confirmed its new leadership team, including president and CEO Rajeev Suri.
Reporting to Suri will be president of mobile networks Samih Elhage, president of fixed networks Federico Guillén, president of IP/optical networks Basil Alwan, president of applications and technologies Bhaskar Gorti and president of Nokia Technologies Ramzi Haidamus.
