Nokia has acquiredPlum Ventures, which operates the social media site Plum, for an undisclosed sum. The US-based company will be merged into Nokia's services unit.

The company behind internet TV service Joost, which is owned by Skype's founders, has ousted board chairman Mike Volpi, and said it will investigate his tenure as CEO and as a board member. The move may be a retaliation after Volpi joined a venture firm that bid for Skype in competition with Joost's owners.

KDDI has arranged to purchase a controlling stake in Hong Kong-based digital media services provider DMX for 12.4 billion yen ($136.9 million). DMX will become a subsidiary of KDDI.

New Zealand has committed to providing broadband access to all rural residents within six years. Half of all rural homes are still stuck on dial-up, communications minister Stephen Joyce said.

Philippine operator BayanTel has petitioned the Court of Appeals to reconsider the decision barring the company's application for a 3G license.
