Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) today launched a "new cloud ecosystem" to deliver enterprise-class cloud services, applications and content across its "world's largest" privately owned global fiber optic network.

Called Cloud X, the cloud ecosystem is said to simplify infrastructure provisioning. It also enables speedy deployment of complex multi-tiered enterprise applications directly on to customer's enterprise networks in minutes, rather than months.

GCX's new platform consists of a global integrated network that supports "cloud nodes" that serves up cloud services.

These "cloud nodes," according to GCX VP of Product and Services Vineet Verma, are essentially points of presences made of switches. Together they help connect the enterprise applications to the cloud and its submarine cable system.

GCX's first two nodes, in Hong Kong and Palo Alto, US, are already up and running with eight compute nodes and one storage nodes. At present, GCX is installing the London cloud node. By mid-2015, GCX will have installed 20+ cloud nodes, aligned with an "automated orchestration layer."

The new Cloud X platform will provide cloud distribution capability in Europe, the Middle East and Asia -- the markets that GCX expect to see the biggest growth in internet usage and content consumption over the next decade.

Targeting at existing customers who are already on GCX network, CloudX provides bandwidth, compute and storage on-demand. This enables companies to test the market response on its business application, such as a mobile gaming app, on a pay per use basis, even in terms of hours. GCX also targets at OTT players and those in the emerging markets, which are challenged by high network latency, weak internet connection and weak service level agreements.
