Google has agreed to settle all litigation with the Rockstar patent consortium which outbid it for Nortel Network's patents in 2011.

Google and Rockstar – a consortium with members including Apple have agreed to settle all disputes out of court, Reutersreported.

In a joint filing to a Texas federal court, the companies said they are working on a definitive agreement which will be ready within the next few weeks.

Rockstar outbid Google for Nortel's trove of over 6,000 patents in 2011, paying $4.5 billion for the portfolio.

Last year, Rockstar took Google, Samsung and other prominent companies from the Android ecosystem to court alleging infringement of seven of these patents.

The court action forms part of Apple's long-running efforts to pursue litigation against Android and Android device makers for what they allege is copying of key iOS features. Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs famously threatened to “go thermonuclear” in the company's legal actions against Android.

The Google/Rockstar filing does not stipulate whether an agreement with the other Android ecosytem players has been reached as part of the settlement.
