Willtek's 2201 ProLock is a small communication test set for GSM and WCDMA terminals, including UMTS phones and data cards.
ProLock, which already begun shipping, is designed for retailers and repair shops to check returned phones and carry out small repairs, according Willtek.
The instrument, along with an antenna coupler, a shielding chamber and special software for easy operation, is designed as a complete test solution as stipulated by handset manufacturers for accepting warranty claims.
A few leading phone vendors have already approved ProLock for handset warranty services, Willtek said.
According to Willtek, repair centers have consolidated regionally and as a result, customers are waiting longer for a check and repair of their mobile phones.
Also, mobile phones needing smaller repairs and those with no trouble found have become more expensive to service due to the required logistics, the company said.
Thus, the ProLock enables retailers and repair shops to locally check end user complaints, repair if possible and claim warranty expenses with the manufacturer, Willtek said.
