GTT launches PoP in Sydney

GTT's network expansion took it to a new continent today. The IP and Ethernet backbone operator has further boosted its APAC presence with a new point of presence down in Sydney, Australia.

Since acquiring Inteliquent's international backbone, GTT has been fairly aggressive in its goal of building scale. On the inorganic front they've done several deals, with the most recent being One Source Networks last autumn. But they have of late been doing it on the organic side, especially in the APAC region.

Last month that expansion took them into the Persian Gulf, where they added PoPs in both Dubai and Doha to go along with the standard far eastern trio of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. Sydney is the natural addition to that list, but is also the company's first foray south of the equator.

Something in India would fit as well of course if only India were more amenable to international network operators, but a PoP in South America seems like a more likely bet for the next geographical expansion, to me at least.

With the One Source Networks deal, GTT fulfilled its stated revenue and EBITDA goals and established a new revenue goal of $1 billion. A good chunk of that is also likely to be inorganic, and they are probably ready for their next move should an opportunity present itself.
