H2 Cable to deploy new APAC cable system

SubCom has been chosen by Singaporean-based H2 Cable for a new APAC cable system. Subcom's win on this APAC deal comes after a similar project by Huawei was nixed by Australian regulators.

The price tag of the project is expected to be $380 million, with an expected date in 2022.

The primary leg of the H2 Cable project will directly connect Australia with Hong Kong for the first time, with branches to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The second proposed leg would then connect Australia with Los Angeles.

The route for that transpacific portion would take a route north of New Caledonia, making it diverse from other cable systems and complementary to Hawaiki, which came online last year. H2 Cable's Chairman Remi Galasso also happens to be Hawaiki's CEO.

For those curious about it, H2's logo is derived from the Chinese character 升 (sheng), which translates to 'rise' or 'ascend'.
