Charles Henshaw is to step down as CEO of China Mobile Hong Kong after nine years in the post.

He will be replaced by chairman Lin Zhenhui (Tiger Lin), who will take on the extra role of CEO from September 1.

Henshaw, 58, joined the operator – formerly known as Peoples – as CTO in 1998 after more than two decades with Ericsson. He was appointed CEO in 2000 and stayed on in the post after China Mobile fully-acquired the cellco in 2006.

A company spokesperson said Henshaw was taking “early retirement.”

Henshaw’s exit was an amicable one, industry sources said. Henshaw, a familiar figure at local and regional telecom events, will return to the UK to spend more time with his family.
