Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) announced Thursday the launch of bundle services that combine HKBN’s high-speed fiber broadband access with the latter’s myTV SUPER OTT content service.

HKBN and TVB are offering bundle services - which feature 100Mbps, 500Mbps and 1Gbps fiber-optic broadband services, unlimited WiFi , and myTV SUPER TV box and mobile app - at a monthly fee ranging from HK$148 ($19) [for 100Mbps with 20 channels and 3,000 hours of TVB Production SVOD] to HK$198 (for 1Gbps).

Speaking at a press conference for the launch yesterday, HKBN CEO and co-owner William Yeung pledged that “HBNK will acquire 400,000 residential broadband customers to use myTV SUPER within the next 18 months.

The operator, which claimed to be the city’s largest provider of residential fiber broadband services (symmetrical 100Mbps to 1Gbps), also aims to expand its fiber broadband subscriber base from the 790,000 to over 1 million in the next two years.

To achieve the company’s goal, HKBN has allocated an additional HK$1 million towards special rewards (on top of the standard structure for salary and bonuses) for frontline staff, as well as one additional day of paid leave for all HKBN employees if target is achieved, Yeung said.

The partnership with TVB is HKBN’s latest move into the OTT content service. Last year HKBN teamed up with Chinese online content provider LeTV to jointly offer broadband access and online content services to consumers in Hong Kong.

Yeung said the partnership with TVB won’t affect its collaboration with LeTV, adding that the company is also considering rolling out new offerings that bundle its broadband service with content services from both LeTV and TVB.

myTV Super is TVB’s newly launched OTT content service platform which offers a wide range of entertainment from TVB and many other programs for general audiences and children from its global partners.

TVB executive director and general manager Cheong Shin Keong said the company has invested HK$200 million on the platform and is hoping the new platform will help drive business revenues.

Apart from HKBN, TVB has also teamed up with 3HK to offer myTV SUPER service via 3Shops and other designated outlets starting mid-March.

Cheong said 3HK will give out 50,000 SIM cards for subscribers for a free trial from March 15 to April 18.

The service will be commercial available for HKBN and 3 HK customers on April 18.
