HKT and the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (SCHSA) jointly announced the launch of a series of “Love & Care” services for the elderly.

The services include eSmartHealth Nurse Caring, e-Care Link and Mobile Safety Phone services. Using cloud, mobile and other advanced technologies, these services provide the elderly with a full range of social support and caring services. Their children who may have a hectic schedule can also make use of these services to look after their elderly family members.

According to the Census and Statistics Department’s recent report on “Mid-2012 Population by Age Group,” the number of the elderly aged 65 and above totaled around 980,000, accounting for 14% of the total population in Hong Kong. Furthermore, it has been projected that the pace of population aging will accelerate in the next 20 years, with the proportions reaching 19% in 2021 and 26% in 2031.

In view of this development, HKT and SCHSA have joined forces to offer the “Love & Care” services. Details of the services are as follows:

HKT’s eSmartHealth cloud-based management service enables the elderly to easily upload and store their blood pressure and blood glucose data in the cloud via the eye Home Tablet. Registered nurses from the SCHSA will remotely monitor the health data on the cloud. In case an elderly forgets to do the measurement or provide data as scheduled, or if the blood pressure or blood glucose level is abnormal, a nurse will proactively contact the elderly to provide support and notify the family members via SMS.
