Taiwan-based HTC has as anticipated a 1.5-fold rise in sales and shipments in Q1 this year, compared to the same period last year.

The company behind Google's flagship Nexus One told the Taipei Times that solid demand for its products contributed to this positive outlook. The company expects revenue to expand 147% to NT$94 billion ($3.23 billion), with shipments expected to rise 157% to hit 8.5 million units.

HTC Ceo Peter Chou said he expects the company’s shipments this year to be driven by newly launched 4G products. To cope with rising demand, the company plans to double the output of its Shanghai factory to 2 million handset units a month. HTC is also building a new production facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan.

Chou hinted HTC might outsource production to various contract makers, but did not name specific partners.

The company’s revenue almost doubled to a record NT$278.8 billion in 2010, from NT$144.5 billion in 2009. Net profit for the same period rose 75% to 39.5.

HTC said its smartphone shipments in 2010 hit 24.6 million units, more than double 2009’s figure of 11.7 million units; while the average selling price per unit dropped to $350 in 2010 from $352 in 2009.
