Taiwanese handset maker HTC reported its first quarterly revenue growth since 2011 during its fiscal third quarter, as the vendor posted a third successive quarter of profit.

The company's revenue for the December quarter grew 22.1% year-on-year to TW$15.1 billion ($471.8 million), AFPreported.

HTC's net profit meanwhile grew 51.6% year-on-year to TW$470 million, marking the third successive quarter of growth. But its net profit declined sequentially from TW$640 million in the prior quarter.

Stronger demand for its smartphones helped contribute to the growth, but the depreciation of the Taiwanese dollar was also a significant factor.

HTC reported a loss in 2013 - its first since it went public in 2002 - and due to the solid fourth quarter figures the vendor appears on track to return to profitability this year.

But HTC still faces significant competition from rials including Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple, and with Gartner recently asserting that demand for mid-range smartphones is starting to evaporate in favor of high-end or low-end devices, the company's challenges are far from over.
