Chinese vendor Huawei plans to invest another $2 billion over five years on its India business.

The company will open a new R&D campus in Bangalore, and aims to further develop its local manufacturing base, Times of Indiareported.

Bangalore is already home to Huawei's largest R&D presence outside China, with around 2,000 engineers. This will be raised to 3,000 after the new center is opened.

Huawei, which recently started manufacturing products in Chennai, said it would also look to expand its production operations in partnership with the local industry. It will also pursue technology co-operation with Indian IT service companies.

Executives from Huawei and rival ZTE are part of a 400-strong business delegation accompanying Chinese premier Wen Jiabao's three-day visit to India, which begins today.

The Indian government earlier this year banned the import of Chinese telecom gear earlier this year on security grounds. It lifted the restrictions after introducing new rules requiring vendors to share their source codes with intelligence agencies.

The China Development Bank this week revealed it would lend $1.9 billion to India’s second biggest telco, Reliance Communications, of which around $600 million will be used to buy equipment from Chinese vendors.
