Indonesia's PT Indosat has launched 42Mbps DC-HSPA+ in seven cities, after completing its network modernization program in the areas.

The company has launched the upgraded service in greater Jakarta, Bali and five cities in Java, the Jakarta Postreported.

Indosat has been busy upgrading its network to cope with the ongoing increase in demand for data services. the company started its current network modernization program in 2012.

According to the report, Indosat will now move on to upgrading its network in Indonesia's eastern areas.

Indosat was the first operator in Asia-Pacific to launch 42Mbps HSPA+ services back in 2010.

Earlier this month, Indosat revealed it had swung to a first-quarter profit of 800.1 billion rupiah ($69.6 million), mostly as a result of the gains booked from the sale of its 5% stake in Tower Bersama Infrastructure in March.

During the quarter, fixed data revenues grew a solid 10.4% year-on-year, compared to a 2.1% decline in mobile revenue and a mere 1.6% increase in fixed voice revenue.
