Indonesia's PT Indosat has contracted Nokia Siemens to deploy 3G network infrastructure in four regions.

NSN revealed it is installing equipment for what will be Indonesia's first 3G services on the 900-MHz band.

Indosat will be offering GSM and 3G services simultaneously over the band, as per the terms of a recent mobile license.

In September, Indosat revealed it had been granted a license from Indonesian regulators to operate a 3G network using the band. The operator is betting on adoption of wireless data services to stimulate revenue growth in a market fast approaching voice saturation.

The deployment will coverCentral and East Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. As part of the contract, NSN will also upgrade Indosat's RAN infrastructure to support the new 3G services.

The deal also covers support services, including emergency support, hardware maintenance and third-party training.
