Intel has launched a new app store for netbooks and MeeGo devices, Intel AppUp, and unveiled an upcoming line of processors for smart TVs.
The app store will come preinstalled on netbooks sold by retailers Best Buy in the US, Croma in India and Dixons in the UK, and is available from those stores' websites for existing netbook users, Intel said.
PC-maker Asus will start pre-installing its laptops with a customized version of the store, named Asus App Store, in October.
As well as desktop operating systems, the store will include apps for MeeGo, the open source netbook and handset OS developed by Intel and Nokia.
AppUp will include both free and paid apps, in the categories of productivity, social networking, entertainment and gaming. Users will be able to trial paid apps for 24 hours before deciding on a purchase.
AppUp launched with around 800 apps, and the AppUp beta - which commenced in January - had attracted around 450,000 users, eWeeksaid.
Intel will take the standard 30% cut on apps sold through the store, according toForbes.com.
