Malaysia's DiGi.Com revealed that its Q1 profit grew 47.6% to 485.2 million ringgit ($148.5 million), thanks in part to solid growth in fixed and mobile internet revenue.

Revenue for the quarter increased 4.3% to 1.7 billion ringgit, with internet revenue contributing 24% of overall service revenues.

The company increased its internet customer base to 4 million from 3 million a year earlier. Total internet revenues increased 41.1% to 374 million ringgit.

During the period, DiGi said it expanded its 3G HSPA+ footprint to 82% of Malaysia's population and expanded its fiber network to span more than 41,000 km.

The company also deployed new LTE base stations within its 4G footprint, which currently covers Klang Valley, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu. DiGi launched LTE services for broadband and tablet plans in July last year, and extended services to smartphones last month.

DiGi reiterated its commitment to spend up to 900 million ringgit in capex this financial year to strengthen its internet capabilities.

The operator ended the quarter with around 10.9 million total customers. DiGi has declared a dividend for the quarter of 6.2 sen per share.
