Kazakhstan deploys RFID at borders

The Republic of Kazakhstan's Customs Control Agency (CCA) is using RFID technology to guard cargo passing through its borders against theft.

CCA has deployed a wireless cargo monitoring system designed by local system integrator NTC. The system uses RFID technology from Hi-G-Tek.

The system, which provides real-time information from cargo trucks in transit, was deployed in several major Kazakhstani border checkpoints between China and Russia.

Kazakhstan serves as a major commercial trade lane between China and Europe, with more than $2 Billion in goods passing through the country each year.

The RFID-powered system is meant to guard cargo against theft while increasing tariff revenues for the CCA.

The system has also automated the registration, control and tracking of all cargo-related travel, reducing manual inspections at border checkpoints.

The CCA has plans of expanding the system with installations in more checkpoints around the country.
