KDDI launches VoLTE roaming in India

Japan's KDDI has announced plans to launch VoLTE telephony services in India in partnership with the market's newest entrant Reliance Jio Infocomm.

KDDI will use Jio's pan-India LTE network to launch India's first VoLTE and HD voice roaming network for travelers to the country.

KDDI's mobile division au now offers its VoLTE World Service in five markets, including the US and South Korea. The compnay is conducting a phased expansion of the service to countries and territories worldwide.

“Reliance Jio welcomes KDDI's customers to India on the first VoLTE and HD voice roaming network in India,” Reliance Jio USA vice president Mark Yarkosky said.

“Using Jio's 4G LTE network, users will have the best data, voice, and messaging experience wherever they travel in the country.”

KDDI first launched VoLTE domestically in 2014 in collaboration with Okinawa Cellular. The operator first introduced VoLTE roaming in 2015 through a reciprocal agreement with South Korea's LG Uplus.
