Japan's KDDI grew its net profit for the six months ending in September by 22% to 227.5 billion yen ($1.86 billion) on the back of solid mobile growth.

Operating revenue grew 6% to 2.15 trillion yen, due in part to an increase in both operating and ebitda margins.

Personal services operating revenue grew 7.2% to 1.68 trillion yen as revenue from handset sales and promotional activities boosted mobile revenue.

The company added 434,000 subscribers to its au brand, and surpassed 10 million subscriptions for its au Smart Value shared service plans, which were extended to fixed communications services during the half-year.

Average revenue per account (ARPA) for au improved by 130 yen year-on-year to 5,700 yen, and the average number of devices by user increased to 1.39.

KDDI meanwhile added 138,000 FTTH subscriptions during the six-month period, taking its total up to 3.57 million.

The operator launched seven new smart devices, including the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus as well as the world's first seawater-resistant smartphone, the Android-based Torque.

Value-added services revenue meanwhile increased by 11.7% to 126.04 billion yen, with total value ARPU growing by 20 yen to 430 yen.
