Japan's KDDI has reported a 41.9% increase in net profit for the six months ending in September, on the back of solid revenue growth and a reduction in one-off losses.

The operator reported profit for the half-year of 231.38 billion yen ($2.05 billion). Operating revenue grew 3.8% to 2.13 trillion yen, as increased subscriptions to mobile unit au and higher data revenues compensated for a decline in handset sales volumes.

The company added 457,000 new au subscribers during the second quarter, ending the period with 41.6 million.

au's ARPU grew by 60 yen to 4,270 yen, as a 90 yen decline in voice ARPU was made up for by a 260 yen increase in data ARPU. Data now accounts for around three quarters of au's total ARPU.

KDDI also had 5.12 million UQ Wimax subscribers and 3.3 million FTTH customers by the end of the second quarter.

Announcing its results, KDDI said it has achieved 52.7% of its consolidated operating income target for the full financial year. This leaves the operator on track to recording a second consecutive year of double-digit profit growth.

For the full year, KDDI is targeting profit of 424 billion yen from revenue of 4.6 trillion yen.
