Korean incumbent carrier KT and Akamai Technologies said they have expanded their strategic partnership on the content delivery network (CDN) technology.

KT, which has been an Akamai NetAlliance partner since 2011, will use Akamai’s CDN technology to deploy and provide CDN services to its business customers in Korea.

Using Akamai's Aura Managed CDN, KT will have dedicated CDN capacity that is available for its own content applications or third party CDN services, the cloud infrastructure services provider said in a statement.

The new expanded partnership helps the Korean telco address the explosion of online multimedia traffic resulting from a range of connected devices, changing viewer habits, and social networking, Akamai added.

"The era has come where culture and digital content are leading the market. Our main priority is to ensure access to content from any device, at anytime, anywhere," said Heekyung Song, SVP of KT’s enterprise IT business unit.

"Through this partnership with Akamai, KT will provide a CDN platform specializing in media delivery, web performance and security so companies can focus on developing quality content and web applications without concerns about delivery."
