Telcos are not viewed by leading enterprises as major providers of cloud computing services. That's the finding of a new survey, conducted by Ovum, of 150 IT managers and CIOs.

More than half of the respondents said they would not consider a major telco for supply of a cloud service.

IBM, Microsoft and even Cisco were the preferred cloud service provider suppliers.

It's not that surprising that telcos ranked last, given only a very small number of telcos have so far shown commitment to the cloud.

But what is worrying is Ovum's belief that it may take two or three years for telcos to establish credibility in this market.
