Singapore's M1 has launched the nation's first nationwide 300Mbps LTE-A network after upgrading its existing 4G infrastructure.

The operator is offering the service for 4G customers with compatible devices at no extra charge.

M1 COO Patrick Schodeller said this is the latest upgrade to the company's 4G network. “In 2012, we launched Southeast Asia’s first nationwide 4G network with download speeds of up to 75Mbps, and further enhanced our network to 150Mbps download speeds nationwide earlier this year,” he said.

“Today, we have yet again doubled the download speeds to 300Mbps nationwide.”

Commenting on the upgrade, Forrester Research senior analyst Clement Teo said the opeartor is responding to consumer demands.

"Smartphone users check their device over a hundred of times per day. They are conditioned to expect that any desired information or service is available on any appropriate device, in context, at their moment of need,” He said.

“Companies need to recognize the mobile mind shift and be visible in this environment, or become irrelevant. M1 is making itself relevant - by shortening the response time for users, and as a result, improving the mobile customer experience. We expect that its users' data usage to grow as a result of the launch.”
