The GSMA and the Multimedia University of Malaysia (MMU) recently announced an agreement to develop a Masters course in Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulation.

The jointly developed graduate program will provide a comprehensive understanding of contemporary regulation theory and emerging regulatory practice models, as well as business and technology trends relevant to the communications sector.

It is designed to enable mid-level to senior executives in national regulatory agencies, ministries and operator companies in the Asia-Pacific region to gain relevant knowledge and skills. It is also expected facilitate closer regional interaction between the key stakeholders so that new ideas and thinking can be developed to ensure the continued growth of the communications sector and its long-term contribution towards social and economic progress.

Anne Bouverot, Director General, GSMA, said by leveraging insights and knowledge of the market to develop a structured and scalable capacity building program, the GSMA will deliver a material improvement in the quality of regulatory decision-making.

With three campuses in Malaysia (Cyberjaya, Melaka and Nusajaya), MMU provides university-level education and training in the areas of multimedia technology, engineering, information technology, creative multimedia and business management. The Masters course in Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulation will be offered at the University’s Cyberjaya campus beginning in the 2016 academic year.

“As part of Telekom Malaysia’s initiative to further develop the ICT industry in the nation as a whole, MMU serves to fulfill the nation’s human resource needs as it grows into a knowledge economy,” said Dato’ Sri Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman, Telekom Malaysia and Chairman, MMU. “MMU’s role as a research university also benefits the nation’s ICT industry, as we are a creator and not just a consumer of technology."
