Media and entertainment are increasingly invading the world of information and communications technology through various new content and applications that consumers are getting hooked on. At the same time, technology is playing a bigger role in enabling the media and entertainment industry to create more compelling content and capture new revenue streams.

Industry data show that the global media and entertainment industry will hit $1.78 trillion in 2009, of which $431 billion will come from the Asia Pacific.

This year's CommunicAsia will highlight how the convergence of media, communications and information technology is changing the landscape of the telecoms and IT industires. The spotlight will squarely be on interactive and digital media, as well as entertainment technologies.
Taking place on June 19-22 at the Singapore Expo, CommunicAsia2007 will showcase new technologies from more than 1,580 exhibitors from all over the world. So far, 21 country pavilions are expected to fill up part of the 47,000-square-meter space allotted for the exhibition.

Some of the converged applications to be highlighted this year are mobile entertainment, IPTV, connected digital home devices and mobile gaming.

Sure to dominate activities on the show floor are various wireless technologies, including 3G, HSDPA, WiMAX, WiBro, fixed-mobile convergence, radio frequency identification and embedded technologies.

Also to be prominently featured are satellite, digital multimedia broadcasting and digital video broadcasting for the broadcasting segment, and next-generation networks, VoIP and information security for the digital networks segment.

Ericsson, HP, Huawei Technologies, LG Electronics, Nokia Siemens Networks, PCCW and Samsung are just a few of those that are expected to showcase their 'digital convergence' wares during the show.

Apart from the exhibits, CommunicAsia also features the CommunicAsia2007 Summit, which will take place from June 19 to 21 at Suntec Singapore. Here, attendees can expect to learn how new technologies are applied in business, as well as how they can leverage market intelligence to sharpen their competitive edge, grow revenue and gain market share.

This year's Summit will add three more forums to its staple of mobile, broadband and next-generation networks forums: convergence, satellite and wireless broadband. Issues to be discussed during the three-day Summit are fixed-mobile convergence, voice/text/data/multimedia and video convergence, satellite communications convergence, WiMAX, 3G LTE and their role in the Asian mobile and broadband markets.
