Norwegian group Telenor has reshuffled the top brass in three Asian countries – Thailand, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

DTAC, Thailand’s second largest mobile operator, will have a new chief in the form of US-born Jon Eddy Abdullah, who will leave Telenor Pakistan to assume his new position come March 1.

Abdullah will succeed Torre Johnsen, who will head Bangladesh’s Grameenphone.

Telenor Pakistan has yet to name its new chief.

Abdullah comes from a financial background and lays claim to more than 20 years experience in the Asian telecom industry.

A source told the Bangkok Post that the reshuffle was likely prompted by rumors that Johnsen’s management style did not suit the Thai market, while Abdullah was touted as a better match.

Abdullah’s style is reportedly more similar with Johnsen’s successor Sigve Brekke, now CEO of Telenor Asia, who was known for refreshing DTAC’s image in Thailand during his term.
