Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo claims it is now fully compliant with government requirements on disaster recoverability, after devoting nearly 70,000 days to developing countermeasures.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issued guidance to DoCoMo in January, covering accident prevention, and protecting communications security and personal information. The operator responded by spending 3,940 days – in terms of man hours – working on countermeasures to past outages, and a further 65,640 days on future protection.

DoCoMo also states it spent 90,000 days inspecting its network infrastructure, to ensure the stability of communications, and pledges to continue extending the network to cope with growing smartphone use. It is also revamping its procedures for publicizing network status to subscribers.
