Two major telecom standards-developing groups have teamed up this month, with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) yesterday revealing it has joined the oneM2M Partnership.

OMA has joined oneM2M as a partner type 2, which will allow it to continue developing M2M-related specifications independently as well as contributing to the Partnership's work.

The oneM2M Partnership was launched in July to develop service layer optimization standards for global M2M services.

Founding members included ETSI, the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of Korea as well as the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) and the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) of Japan.

Open Mobile Alliance is more venerable, having been originally established in 2002 to consolidate the work of various industry Forums to develop telecom application protocol standards.

The OMA has nearly 200 members, including major wireless infrastructure vendors, mobile operators, IT companies and application/content providers.
