OpenNet, the entity responsible for building, managing and operating Singapore's NG-NBN fiber network, said it has doubled its subscriber base in 8 months.

Fiber connections to homes started in September 2010 and demand remains robust, OpenNet said. Subscribers crossed the 200,000 mark in August 2012 since hitting the 100,000 mark in January.

"This milestone is especially notable given that the current broadband market is a mature one, dominated by traditional ADSL and Cable broadband service," OpenNet said.

OpenNet’s director of business development and communications Daniel Ho said more Singaporeans are recognizing the benefits of switching over to a fiber broadband service.
