Pacnet has secured an internet data center (IDC) license covering the city of Chongqing in mainland China.

Pacnet's mainland joint venture, Pacnet Business Solutions (PBS) has constructed a Tier III data center in the city with a total capacity of 2,000 racks of carrier-neutral colocation.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) awarded the license after conducting an evaluation of PBS' internet content provider record-keeping management, accessing resource management, information security management; and data center operation security management.

This marks the first IDC license covering Chongqing that has been rewarded to a foreign-invested company.

“Chongqing is the most important megacity in Southwest China and a very important hub for Pacnet’s data center network not only throughout China, but also the rest of the Asia-Pacific region,” PBS CEO Henry Lam said.

“This new IDC license provides us the ability to expand our data center footprint to complement our... internet bandwidth and IPVPN services both in and out of the region.”

Pacnet also has data centers and PoPs in Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Xi’an. The operator is headquartered in Hong Kong and Singapore.
