(Associated Press via NewsEdge) Samsung Electronics has sued rival Renesas Technology, claiming infringement of patents that cover how memory chips are made.
According to a complaint Samsung filed with the US District Court for the District of Delaware on May 4, the South Korean company is seeking a permanent injunction that bars Renesas and its subsidiaries from making, selling and importing into the US any product that Samsung claims violates two of its patents.
Samsung, the world's largest maker of computer memory chips, is seeking an unspecified sum in damages, court documents show.
Samsung spokeswoman Lee Eun-hee declined to provide additional details.
Tokyo-based Renesas, set up by Japanese electronics makers Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric in 2003, is one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world.
A Renesas official in Tokyo said the company was prepared to argue its case in court.
In January, Renesas filed two separate suits against Samsung in the same court, documents show.
Renesas alleged that Samsung violated its patents related to DRAM, causing the company to 'suffer irreparable harm.' Both cases are still pending.
