SecureKey, an identity and authentication service provider, recently announced a collaboration with Oberthur Technologies (OT), a SIM card and SIM-based software provider.

The partnership will deliver combined solutions to the mobile identity service market and extend the capabilities of both companies.

The agreement will enable SecureKey to extend its authentication capabilities to support SIM-based secure elements, while allowing OT to expand its suite of SIM-based applications.

The SecureKey-OT collaboration could bring significant gains to both companies within the mobile identity space. The vendor landscape for the delivery of mobile identity services is wide, ranging from providers of the systems that generate mobile identities to mobile identity creation, authentication, and identity management solution providers.

Telcos are keen to leverage the direct connectivity they have with their customers’ SIM cards to bring these mobile identity services to market. Mobile identity solution providers need to ensure that they are able to cover a broader scope of this landscape. SecureKey and OT understand this need and have decided to work together to provide mobile identity solutions that support a wide variety of platforms.

SecureKey’s bridge.net Connect platform is a cloud-based multi-factor authentication service platform. It enables the online authentication of consumers by linking their identities to trusted devices, including mobile devices and PCs. OT on the other hand specializes in the creation of digital security solutions such as smart cards and contactless technologies used within mobile devices. It is considered one of the leading SIM card providers within the telecoms space.

The collaboration between OT and SecureKey delivers benefits to both parties. It allows SecureKey to extend the types of secure elements that its briidge.net Connect service can support. These secure elements support the creation and storage of the cryptographic keys as well as the device ID that uniquely identifies the user’s device.
