The Singapore government will today announce the winner of the second stage of its next-gen broadband tender.

The IDA will unveil the name of the successful Operating Company (OpCo) bidder at a press briefing for 4.45pm Singapore time.

Bidders are the three local infrastructure owners, SingTel, StarHub and M1, and IntelliNet Consortium, a partnership between Canadian-based Axia and networking giant Cisco.

The winner will be given exclusive rights to build a new fiber network, backed by S$250 million in government subsidies.

The OpCo will wholesale broadband services to retail operators. It is to be structurally separate from any retail-level carriers.

OpenNet, a joint venture between SingTel and Axia, won the "NetCo" bid last September, giving it the right to build the underlying infrastructure. The government will tip S$750 million into the project.
