Singapore's Land Transportation Authority is set to implement a Wi-Fi connection trial at 28 MRT station platforms across the country.

The initiative is part of the Land Transport Master Plan to provide better service in Singapore's public transport network and aims to enhance wireless connectivity for commuters while they wait for trains.

Initially, Wireless@SG will be introduced at the platforms of all East Line stations and 12 other stations with high commuter usage.

Wireless@SG is the wireless broadband initiative by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). It aims to extend broadband access beyond homes, schools and offices to public places. Users can enjoy free and seamless wireless broadband access with speeds of up to 2 Mbps.

The government said the trial will run for two years, and will inform the decision whether to extend the service to other MRT stations.
